I keep a running list of places I’d defend in a street fight, and the dessert spots in Roseville keep joining it. You can find me at the Galleria for gelato or in a strip mall off Douglas Boulevard for cookies that outshine any party platter.

The range here runs from a Peruvian kitchen pouring exceptional sangria to a gluten-free bakery worth the drive from San Jose. That’s not hyperbole; I made the trip twice.

The rest of the list is below, so you can plan your own sugar route.

Apple Brie crepe shines

I walked into Julian's Pastry Nouveau expecting a quick stop. I left with a box of pastries and a genuine respect for the owner. She is kind in a way that feels practiced and real at the same time. The pastries rank among the best I've had in Roseville. The coffee pairs well with the crepes, which is a rare combination. The Apple Brie crepe is the standout; the brie melts into the apples without overwhelming them. The new Bon-Bon offerings are tempting, though I didn't try them this visit. I will. It's a small place with big ambitions that actually land.

Cafe 86 is the kind of place where you order ube and immediately feel you've made the right choice. The ube flavors shine in everything, from the drinks to the desserts. The staff are friendly and quick with recommendations, which I appreciate because I hate standing around. The vibe is trendy and modern, and the fresh sandwiches and teas round out the menu. The halo halo is worth the wait. I say wait because it takes time to assemble. It's a dessert that rewards patience. The café feels like a place you could bring anyone, from a first date to your mother.

Tastes identical to gluten versions
Safe for celiac, no sickness
Savory empanadas worth the drive
Cookies and shortbread impress
Worth traveling from San Jose

Just Gluten Free Kitchens is not a compromise. It's a correction. I've had gluten versions of cookies and shortbread that taste worse than what they make here. The empanadas are savory and worth the drive from anywhere, even San Jose. That's a bold statement, but I mean it. The cookies and shortbread impress you with their texture and flavor. The best part is I ate everything and felt zero sickness, which is the real metric for anyone with celiac. This place understands the assignment. I'll be back with a cooler.

Sugar Statement

Sugar Statement
Highlights
Pretty cookies that taste perfect
Big hit at graduation parties
Wide choice, fair prices
Cake pops and cookies impress
Worth repeat visits

Sugar Statement is a store that exists for parties, and I mean that as a compliment. I bought cookies for a graduation party, and they were a big hit. The cookies are pretty, but they also taste perfect. That's a rare combination. The cake pops are equally impressive and didn't crumble in the box. The prices are fair for the quality, and the variety is wide. I've made repeat visits already. The staff didn't rush me when I couldn't decide, which I appreciate. If you have an event, this is your one-stop shop.

FLORES MUNCHIES is the kind of place that surprises you. The sweet combinations are unique, like fresh strawberries with cream that somehow feels both light and indulgent. The counter service is attentive; they actually watch you to see if you need a refill. The family-friendly atmosphere is comfortable, and I saw kids and grandparents both enjoying themselves. They have rotating daily specials, so I never know what I'm going to get. That uncertainty is part of the charm. I didn't feel rushed, and I didn't feel ignored. That balance is hard to find.

Great value, weekly cravings
Large selection, easy ordering
Nostalgic cafe with music

Bakery Bites is a nostalgic trip with a side of authentic Indian sweets. The cakes are fresh, and the staff are friendly. I've had better Indian sweets in Los Angeles, but not by much, and not at these prices. The selection is large, and ordering is easy. I found myself craving their stuff on a weekly basis. That's a dangerous habit. The café has music playing that reminds me of my childhood, which is odd but welcome. The kitchen smells clean and busy. I left with a box and no regrets.

Family-owned cafe atmosphere

Bounty Hunters Grind & Grill is a Western Burger with a side of Mac-n-Cheese. That sounds like a theme park ride, but it's just a great meal. The burger was cooked perfectly, and the mac-n-cheese was hot and huge. The owners run the place, and they are attentive without being hovering. The spot is spotless and welcoming. It's a family-owned café atmosphere, and you can feel it. I didn't go in expecting dessert, but the whole meal left me satisfied. The service made me want to return, which is a strong pull.

Skilled coffee professionals
Oatmilk cappuccinos worthwhile
Great for coffee drinks
Friendly staff recommendation
Strong drinks, uneven food

Bloom Coffee & Kitchen has serious baristas. They know what they're doing with the beans, and the oatmilk cappuccino is a testament to that skill. The staff are friendly and gave me a recommendation that was spot on. The coffee drinks are strong and consistent. The food is uneven, though. I tried a to-go item, and it was fine but not memorable. If you're here for coffee, you'll be happy. If you're here for a full meal, you might be disappointed. I'll stick to the drinks and keep my expectations clear.

Excellent party catering
Prime Galleria location
Standout Ferrero Rocher

La Dolce Vita Gelato is located in the Galleria, which is a prime spot. The service is fast and friendly, which is rare in a mall setting. They have 28 rotating flavors, so you'll never get bored. The Ferrero Rocher flavor is the standout. It tastes like the candy but better. They also do party catering, which I haven't used but might consider. The gelato itself is smooth and dense. I don't usually go out of my way for gelato, but I would for this place. The line moves quickly, even on weekends.

Consistent chocolate chip shortage
Delicious cookies overall
Friendly, quick service
Clean, well-kept store
Regulars get fewer chips

Crumbl Cookies is a consistent experience. The cookies are delicious, and the store is clean and well-kept. The staff are friendly and quick. However, there's a chocolate chip shortage. Not in the store, but in the cookies. I've been a regular for a while, and I've noticed regulars get fewer chips. It's a systematic thing. Maybe they're rationing for newbies. The cookies themselves still taste good, though. I keep going back, which says something about the quality. Just don't expect the chocolate chip cookie to look like the picture.

Self-roasted, grind-to-order beans
Cortado with almond milk
Friendly, welcoming service
Cozy in-house coffee experience

World Traveler Coffee Roasters is a small place that does one thing well: coffee. They roast their own beans and grind to order. I had a cortado with almond milk, and it was well-balanced. The service is friendly and welcoming, which makes the cozy in-house experience even better. It's not a dessert place, but the coffee is enough to satisfy a sweet tooth. I didn't try any pastries, so I can't speak to those. But if you're serious about coffee, this is a stop. The kind of place you'd seek out.

Chicha Peruvian kitchen updated its ambiance, and the change works. I came for the alfajores, and they are out of this world. That sounds like hyperbole, but I mean it. The sangria is genuinely exceptional, and I've had a lot of sangria. The servers are attentive and warm, which is a rare combination. I felt cared for without being micromanaged. The menu has been updated, but the classics are still there. I'm already planning to return with my family. It's the kind of place you want to share.
